Intradermal Testing

The first step in our allergy diagnosis is to ensure that your abnormal reactions are, in fact, allergic.  Many medical problems like cancer, arthritis, and even flu can weaken the immune system and cause reactions that normally wouldn't occur.  Occasionally what appears to be an allergy is actually something completely unrelated, such as lactose intolerance--a condition that makes the body unable to digest milk products because of a shortage of certain enzymes.  And it has been demonstrated that people with noisy breathing aren't necessarily allergic--some people just breathe louder than others!

Next, after studying your particular symptoms of allergy and overall health, Dr. Chappell determines what type of testing, or combination of testing, will most accurately detect your allergy profile.  While blood testing is available, the Celebration of Health Association offers a skin testing protocol called intradermal serial dilution (intradermal testing) that gives more accurate results and causes little discomfort when compared to the old scratch and prick methods.  Both food and airborne allergies can be detected using this technique, and a neutralizing dose is determined which makes the treatment process itself more accurate, safer and quicker.
